discover purpose

Discovering your purpose is very important in the life of an individual both believer and unbeliever but it’s a must and compulsory that a believer should find his/her purpose.

What is a purpose?

Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

That was a very straight forward definition, it doesn’t need us to start to think over it anymore, since you know the definition of purpose, then the questions you should ask yourself is, why am I created? Why do I exist? What is my assignment?

As you answer the question, one important thing we should know is that, God doesn’t waste resources, everything he created have their different purposes both living and non-living things. Isn’t that why the stone the builders rejected became the cornerstone?  The stone was rejected because they never knew the purpose for it but everything change when they discovered the purpose of the stone and it became the most important part of the house. Psalm 118: 22

This same thing can apply to you when you discover your purpose because the key to your success is to discover Gods purpose for your life, therefore making you an important part of the world. Let’s look at John the Baptist in the bible who was the forerunner of Jesus Christ, its purpose was to announce the coming of Jesus Christ and also to baptized him, he fulfilled his purpose and his story never went off from the mouth of Christians.

“13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son; you will name him John. 14 Joy and gladness will come to you, and many will rejoice at his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth. 16 He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go as forerunner before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him” (Luke 1:13-17).

Who would have known or talked about John the Baptist the way believers talked about him now if not for his purpose that he discovered and fulfill.

How can you discover Gods purpose for your life?

1 Give your life to Christ

Nobody knows you more than the one who created you, hence why he said it in his word

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1: 5

Since he created us and he knows us, definitely he is going to know our purpose. You can’t take a Rolls Royce car to a road side mechanic to tell you the purpose of the car. Even if you do, he can’t know the purpose why the manufacturer of the car produced it, so any purpose the road side mechanic tells you will be wrong.

2 Ask him and pray for guidance

The next thing for us to do is to ask him what our purpose is since he created us, it means only him has the right answer to our mystery. In the process of asking, some he tells them what his purpose for their live is and some won’t hear anything; depending on the level of relationship you have with him. But in the case you are in the category of those that won’t hear; don’t be sad because you are still on the right part which is why I included pray for guidance.  When you also pray for guidance including his will, there is a way God will keep directing your part till you meet yourself at your purpose. It’s the kind of people that when they ask them how they ended up here, they will tell you they don’t understand. It’s so because they didn’t plan it and their qualification is so different from the purpose they are living. All you have to do is to trust him to lead you to his purpose for your life

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope”. Jeremiah 29: 11 NKJV

3 Study yourself

Apart from who created you, nobody knows you more than yourself, just that we don’t take time to study ourselves and also we are insensitive to some situations around us. Studying yourself will make you understand the kind of person you are, what your abilities are, what gives you joy, what you like, what you don’t like etc

For example, you can’t hate the sight of blood and you tell yourself you want to become a doctor, you are deceiving yourself, nobody will tell you before you resign as a doctor when you start acting funny just for seeing blood. That’s an indication that you are in the wrong direction.

When you study yourself, you will know your gifts, talents, passion, potential, in-built ability and all these things will lead you to your purpose.

“A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men”. Proverbs 18:16

PS  What’s that your gift that will make room for you and bring you before great men? Discover yourself today; are you ready to go through the stress?

The meaning of these words:

Gift: a natural ability or talent.

Talent: natural aptitude or skill.

Potential: latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness

Passion: strong and barely controllable emotion.
